Privacy Policy
your weight is nobody’s business modelFerno is a weight-loss coach, so it handles personal things: your weight, what you eat, how your day went. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and how you can delete any of it. The short version: we don’t sell your data, we don’t run ads, and you can erase everything.

1. Who we are
“Ferno,” “we,” and “us” mean the company that operates the Ferno apps for iPhone, Android and the web, and the website getferno.com. For anything privacy-related, email privacy@getferno.com.
2. What we collect
Things you give us
- Account details — your email address and name. If you use Sign in with Apple, we may receive a private relay email instead of your real one.
- Your plan and profile — goal, goal weight and date, starting weight, height, birth year, sex, activity level and pace. These are used to calculate your daily calorie target.
- Health and nutrition logs — meals (photos, voice notes, or text you type), calorie and macro estimates, weigh-ins, notes, wins, and check-ins.
- Conversations and memories — your chats with Ferno and the short “memories” Ferno keeps (for example, “dinner is the hard one”). You can see and delete every memory in the app.
- Support messages — anything you send to support@getferno.com.
Things collected automatically
- Device and app info — platform, app version, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
- Usage events — basic product events (like “meal logged” or “onboarding finished”) that we use to keep the app working and to understand which features help. We don’t use third-party advertising trackers.
- Cookies — the web app uses a single sign-in session cookie. This website doesn’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Things we get from others
- Subscription status from Apple or Google (through our subscription provider, RevenueCat) — whether you’re in a trial, subscribed, or cancelled. We never see your card number.
3. How we use it
- To coach you: estimate meals, build and adjust your plan, answer your messages, and remember context.
- To send the check-ins and reminders you turn on (and only those).
- To run your subscription and free trial.
- To keep Ferno secure, prevent abuse, fix bugs, and measure what it costs to run.
- To reply when you contact us, and to meet legal obligations.
We never use your health or nutrition data for advertising, and we never sell it or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How the AI works with your data
Ferno’s coaching is powered by AI models from Anthropic (the makers of Claude). When you log a meal or send a message, we send the relevant content — the photo or text, plus the parts of your plan and memories needed to answer well — to Anthropic to generate a response. Anthropic processes it on our behalf as a service provider. Under our commercial agreement, Anthropic does not use this content to train its models; it may retain it for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring under its own policies.
AI estimates can be wrong. You can correct any meal, and Ferno learns from your corrections within your account only.
5. Who we share it with
Only the service providers we need to run Ferno, under contracts that limit what they can do with it:
- Anthropic — AI processing (see above).
- RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation.
- Apple and Google — app distribution, billing, and delivering push notifications.
- Cloud hosting and database providers — where Ferno’s servers and data live.
- Email delivery provider — to send your sign-in codes.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy’s promises go with your data). We’ll never sell it.
6. Health data
We treat your weight, food logs, and anything you tell Ferno about your body or health as sensitive. It is used only to provide coaching to you. If you connect Apple Health or Health Connect in the future, data read from them will be used only to coach you — never for advertising, never sold, and never shared except as needed to provide the service.
If you live in a US state with consumer health data laws (such as Washington’s My Health My Data Act), you have the right to know what health data we collect, to have it deleted, and to withdraw consent. We collect it only to provide the service you asked for.
7. How long we keep it
- We keep your data while your account is open.
- Memories you delete are deleted immediately — hard-deleted, not hidden.
- When you delete your account, your profile, meals, photos, weigh-ins, chats, and memories are deleted from our active systems right away and from backups within 30 days.
- We keep anonymous AI cost records (no content, no longer linked to you) and records we’re legally required to keep, such as subscription transaction logs.
8. Your choices and rights
- See and edit your plan, logs, and memories in the app at any time.
- Delete everything from the app: You → Privacy → Delete everything. Or email privacy@getferno.com and we’ll do it for you.
- Get a copy of your data by emailing us. We’ll send it within 30 days.
- Turn off any check-in or notification in the app or your phone’s settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live, and we won’t treat you differently for using them.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, sign-in codes are stored hashed and expire in minutes, and access to production data is limited to the few people who need it to run Ferno. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and will notify you if a breach affects your data.
10. Age requirement
Ferno is for adults 18 and over. It isn’t designed for children or teens, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe someone under 18 is using Ferno, tell us and we’ll delete the account.
11. International transfers
Ferno and its service providers are based in the United States. If you use Ferno from elsewhere, your data will be processed in the US, with safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where required.
12. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
